How We Work

ENRD has taken a serious look at the delivery of social services through ICT enabled tools, but it approached the problem from a grassroot perspective. Since 2003, it has been working to bridge the digital divide in Nepal by extending ICT access to rural areas through wireless technology. Since 2004 it is dedicated for updating and extending Nepal wireless Networking Project (NWP), which is owned and managed by Himanchal Higher Secondary School (HHSS) of Nangi Village of Myagdi district, which aims to maximize the benefits of wireless technology for the rural population in mountainous areas in order to make their life bit easier and more enjoyable.

To complete such an ambitious task it has gathered more than 50 experts and researches from Nepal and abroad for exploring suitable ICT tool in rural area. ENRD has already shown its expertise on localizing and providing trainings for these sophisticated technologies in simpler form to villagers for getting its real benefits. To name a few, villagers are using Net Meeting, VoIP Phone, Remote desktop tools, Nepali single interface web-based portal for delivering social services such as local e-commerce, tele-education and tele-medicine. Moreover, ENRD activities has shown its influence in National ICT policy and regulation. Through a continuous effort of ENRD team, Nepal Government de-licensed the Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM) bands using 2.4 Ghz and 5.8 Ghz frequencies.
